The 41-year old woman was struck down as she attempted to cross the street. One of the drivers involved in the accident remained at the scene and fully cooperated with authorities. The individual in question was tested for drugs or alcohol, with all tests coming up negative. No arrests were made.
The second vehicle that struck the woman fled the scene immediately after the accident. The automobile was described as a dark colored SUV. Police remain on the lookout for the car.
Whenever a motorist is involved in a serious collision, especially one involving the death or injury of another person, they are required by law to remain at the scene until authorities are able to arrive. Failing to do so is considered a hit and run in the state of California; if caught, the guilty driver can face significant fines and jail time depending on the circumstances.
