A man wanted in connection with a dangerous hit and run collision in Hollywood remains on the loose. As originally reported by ABC 7, the accident occurred Sunday night around 9:30 in the 1000 block of North Orange Drive.
The driver was heading south on North Orange Dr. when he ran a red light at Santa Monica Blvd. and slammed into an eastbound Toyota Corolla. The man helped a number of people who were in his own vehicle out, before fleeing the scene on foot. The suspect was last seen heading east on Santa Monica Blvd. In total, 7 people were injured, including two young children, 3 teenagers, a 50-year old man and another adult whose age couldn’t be determined at the time. All individuals survived with only minor injuries.
Investigators believe that the driver was fleeing a previous minor accident, when he caused the collision. The suspect is believed to have been drunk and speeding at the time. Police are still searching for clues to the man’s whereabouts.
In the state of California, hit and run accidents are considered a felony. If caught, it can mean serious jail time and fines for the accused. Sadly, many hit and run cases go unresolved, with the suspects never caught. This doesn’t mean victims can’t get compensation for their injuries.
