A man who lost his leg remains in the hospital after a violent hit and run collision over the weekend. As reported by ABC 7 news, the accident occurred at the corner of 43rd Street and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles on Sunday evening. Police were contacted around 5:20 p.m. and informed that a woman driving a white Audi had run a man down.
Los Angeles Police Det. Felix Padilla said, “The driver of the Audi failed to stop and fled the scene without rendering aide or calling for police.” Officers in the area located the suspect and attempted to pull her over. After a brief pursuit, the woman slammed into two parked cars on the corner of 51st Street and McKinley Avenue.
Once in custody, the woman was booked for suspicion of driving under the influence and hit and run. She was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, while the man lost his leg at the scene and was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition. The investigation is ongoing.
Unfortunately, this is an all too common tragedy that plays out on an almost daily basis in Los Angeles. A drunk driver runs down an innocent pedestrian only to speed off in fear of being caught. It is cold-blooded and callous behavior that deserves to be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
If you or a loved one has suffered such an accident, you have the right to pursue legal action in civil court. While monetary damages may not undo the awful circumstances that have been thrust upon your family, they may be able to alleviate some of the immediate economic hurdles.
