Los Angeles Art Works At Saving Lives

By Robert Kahn on November 24, 2015 - Comments off

Pedestrian Accidents On average, 100 bicyclists and pedestrians are killed every year in Los Angeles. This is a difficult problem that requires a new approach.

A new initiative spurred on by Mayor Garcetti launched by the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs hopes to not only shed some light on the number of pedestrian and cyclist deaths in the city, but plans to prevent them.

The Creative Catalyst Artist in Residence Program plans to use, as the Mayor suggests, “The creative genius that thrives in Los Angeles” to innovative ways to connect city residents with Mayor Garcetti’s vision for a safer, more sustainable, and dynamic Los Angeles. The selected artist will design an accessible, targeted campaign to engage L.A. communities with Vision Zero — a citywide strategy to end all traffic fatalities within 10 years.

Artists chosen will work hand-in-hand with the department of transportation to develop new ways in which to help prevent cyclist and pedestrian deaths across the county. To help motivate the cause the chosen artist will be given a $20,000 grant, paid over two years. Artists will work with transportation engineers and city planners.

We look forward to seeing these new works throughout the city. If you have any questions about pedestrian or cyclist accidents, contact Kahn Roven, LLP to schedule a consultation.
